Today, an Army veteran hurt in combat received a special gift. A new car. It’s one that's payment free for retired 14-year United State Army veteran and purple heart recipient Brandon Conger.“Course I wasn't picky at all," Sgt. First Class Conger said. The Iraq combat-wounded veteran and father of five received a 2023 Buick Enclave Thursday morning.“It was a really important way for us to give back to somebody who is giving such a great service to our country," Max Curnow with the Curnow Automotive Group said. It’s not just a car, either. The dealership showed off all the room in the new Buick by packing it with school supplies for Conger’s kids. The Military Warriors Support Foundation hooked up with the dealership and Wells Fargo to get a new car. They say helping veterans succeed after military service is what they're all about.“So that they no longer have to worry about a monthly payment, and that gives them so much peace of mind," Tammy LeValley with the Military Warriors Support Foundation. It's the 160th car the group has given away to a veteran, and even occasionally, they give a veteran a free house.“It's probably the most rewarding thing I've ever done in my career," Phil Forrest with Wells Fargo said. Conger says it's remarkable to see the support. His five kids range from an infant to a 15-year-old. He was able to drive the car and all the goodies home to Belton, Missouri, on Thursday. The organization is giving away another free card to a veteran in Minneapolis at their state fair.
