Davon Fuller, a former staffer for a Democratic council member in Washington, D.C., has been fatally shot, her office has confirmed.
On Wednesday, Councilmember Brianne Nadeau released a statement saying she was "shocked and deeply saddened" that the 28-year-old, who previously worked as a constituent services representative in her office, had been killed "following a disagreement with someone" outside a supermarket in the northeastern quarter of the city.
"Davon grew up in Ward 1 [Nadeau's constituency], was well-loved in our community, and worked incredibly hard in our office," she wrote. "He was a proud and caring father of two young children. His murder is a tragic loss and I sincerely hope there is justice for him."
Nadeau said she was "sending my condolences to his family, friends, and the community he loved, and that loved him back."

The announcement prompted tributes from other local officials in D.C.
"Simply tragic on so many levels," Troy Donte Prestwood, a political commentator and former advisory neighborhood commissioner, wrote on X, formerly Twitter. "Praying for peace in my city."
Patricia Eguino, a microbiologist and advisory neighborhood commissioner, wrote: "Rest in peace, Davon Fuller. Thank you for your service in Ward 1."
The Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C., said Fuller was shot around 1:42 p.m. ET on Monday, in a parking lot close to Maryland Avenue and Benning Road. Nadeau said the incident followed an altercation at the Safeway store in the nearby Hechinger Mall.
Fuller had been unconscious but breathing when officers arrived, a spokesperson for the force told Newsweek. He was taken to a local hospital where he died of his injuries, the spokesperson added.
No arrests have yet been made in connection with the shooting, but the public will be notified when one has, the spokesperson said.
Detectives are now looking for a man in his twenties with a dark complexion, who was seen wearing a green hoodie and blue jeans, with a gun in his waistband, running across the parking lot towards a CVS on the other side of Maryland Avenue.
Local news station WUSA 9 reported that nearby businesses had shattered windows, though it was unclear if this was related to the incident.
Fuller was a resident of northwest Washington, D.C., and the police are offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the shooter.
