COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — A social worker accused of engaging in unlawful sexual contact with a minor she was counseling was arraigned in court Saturday morning.
Police arrested social worker Payton Shires, charging her with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor after concerns arose over text messages between herself and a 13-year-old boy whom she was counseling.
Authorities said the boy had told detectives that the two had been engaged in intercourse at least twice in various parts of Columbus.
During a controlled three-way call between Shires, the boy's mother and police, Shires admitted to the sexual relationship. Authorities arrested her Friday without incident.
Shires appeared in Franklin County Municipal Court on Friday where her bond was set at just over $500,000.
A hearing is scheduled for Shires on Oct. 16.
