Rally Opposing Offshore Wind Set For Point Pleasant Beach

The "Enough is Enough" rally is set to include updates from U.S. Rep. Chris Smith on efforts to halt offshore wind projects off New Jersey.

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — A rally opposing offshore wind development at the Jersey Shore is set for Saturday on the Point Pleasant Beach boardwalk, just as work is slated to begin for a project at Island Beach State Park.

The "Enough is Enough" rally is set for 11 a.m. Saturday outside Jenkinson's Pavilion.

It will be held rain or shine according to the organizers, the Ocean Country Federation of Republican Women.

There are several speakers scheduled for the rally to focus on the environmental and economic impacts offshore wind development will have on our communities and continuing to call for a moratorium on offshore wind testing and development.

Included among the speakers is U.S. Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey's 4th District, who is anticipated to provide updates on his efforts at the federal level to halt the project development. Point Pleasant Beach Mayor Paul Kanitra also is expected to speak.

The rally comes as work is set to begin Monday at Island Beach State Park for the Ocean Wind 1 wind farm being constructed off Ocean City by Orsted.
