Retired Army Capt. given mortgage-free home in Zebulon after being cheated by contractors

A retired Army captain and his wife received a mortgage-free home in Zebulon on Thursday.
As a third-generation soldier, retired Army Capt. Hans Mumm was an intelligence officer who oversaw the military program of wartime playing cards that featured the most-wanted Iraqis in 2003. He was medically discharged in 2010 after combat and multiple exposures of IED strikes took a toll on his health.

Mumm and his wife said they had paid contractors for materials to build them a home, but the contractors left the site with upfront money they received, leaving a damaged superstructure behind.
Lowe’s and Building Homes for Heroes, a national non-profit, partnered together to help Mumm.
Mumm and his family got the keys to their house on Thursday morning during a home-gifting ceremony.
