
The demonstrators demanded that Ranjan Singh speak up in Parliament and provide a clear picture of the ongoing crisis affecting the region. Ranjan's residence was attacked on June 15 when a mob set his house ablaze.
In another incident, police stopped a protest rally taken out by students of the Manipur University. The rally was taken out from the university premises to the CM's bungalow. Police had to fire tear gas shells to quell the protest. Police stopped the rally at Kakwa. Students were demanding that the government restore peace and lift the ban on internet.
Vice president of Manipur University Students' Union, Oinam Premdas, said that due to the ongoing conflict, students were being hit hard as academic careers were at stake.
"It has been almost 80 days that our academic atmosphere is in a completely dismal state.... It is unfortunate that unrest is escalating each day which threatens the survival of our ethnic community," he said.
